KEEPING PRIVATE ACTS REALLY PRIVATE

CASE 1: A girl had a boyfriend of eight years. They almost tied the knot until after a very serious problem had begotten the relationship. All of a sudden, the two had become estranged, enemies if you may call it as their respective families were also drawn into the drama. Three months after the separation, sex videos of the two have circulated the internet. The girl had as her logical suspect his ex-boyfriend whom she said was all along in custody of these videos. The guy meanwhile as expected denied having to do with the circulation thereof saying that the laptop where the same were stored had been stolen weeks back. He added that like the girl, he too was offended by the act as who would want his face and body in comprising situations plastered over the internet.

CASE 2: In his most recent trip abroad, a male OFW lost his cellphone in an international airport and all efforts he exerted to recover it failed. Incidentally, apart from the important contacts, a video of his sexual contact with his wife was saved there too which according to him was a keepsake, something to keep him warm in the cold nights while he was away. Just weeks afterwards, the same video landed in the internet. Shortly thereafter, his fellow workers abroad downloaded copies of it from the net and victim OFW had gained recognition as the resident porn star.

CASE 3: A lady had an affair with a married guy who had the practice of videotaping their sexual encounters. When the knowledge of the affair reached the guy’s wife, the latter surreptitiously took the cellphone eventually leading to her discovery of the sex video. Weeks thereafter, the video landed in the internet. Poor girl at first was suspended from her work until she decided to resign out of embarrassment. The news about the sex video spread like wildfire in the industry where she belong and she encountered difficulty in finding work when she decided it was time to find one.

These things have become one aplenty nowadays. More than a year after we have become witnesses to the drama which unfolded between famous personalities engaged in highly publicized sex videos, some people seem not to learn much about being careful in their sexual escapades. Not that I want to place judgment on the practices of some in videotaping their intimate moments, but the fact is that they should exert additional effort in keeping these very private. With the advent of the internet, the dissemination of materials take place at the speed of light, thereby reaching even the far ends of the earth and eventually causing permanent damage to the victims. More than that, I have discussed in previous articles the difficulty in the investigation of these types of cases because the infrastructure has not yet been properly defined.
