Everyday, we get bombarded by the thoughts and sight of people who are better than us, more beautiful than us, richer than us, or simply put luckier than us. For this reason, we go out of our way to make their lives miserable just so that we can feel good about ourselves.
This is understandable enough- or at least acceptable because people would naturally or instinctively perform things that would bring self-gratification. It does make sense when one critiques the hair of someone whom is obviously prettier than her because, as I said it reduces the feeling of lack. Didn’t you notice that Prince William’s balding head stole the show during the Royal Wedding?
What is unjustified and pathetic is one who criticizes another despite being more blessed than the one he critiques. If BILL GATES speaks of how lowly he thinks of the people who dirty their shoes because they have to brave the dirty roads on their commute to their office, that is certainly the height of arrogance. Or when ANGELINA JOLIE blurts her heart out upon sight of the chapped skin of a female Divisoria Market vendor, it is without doubt appalling.
The world is filled with lots of people who do not have the luxury of beauty, charm, education or intellect the way you do. If we cannot put ourselves in their shoes and empathized with their shortcomings, we only add up to their sufferings when we criticize them. In the first place, they already know the pains of their predicament. We do not have to rub it into them. If we cannot extend a hand to fill-in their deficiencies just so that they become deserving of our “critical attention” then let us just be thankful to God that them not we, were created to experience the pains of lack, ugliness, poverty, and dumbness.
super like! i beg to disagree when rizal says its heditary to have the crab mentality. i may not change the way all people think but let me begin by setting an example of being happy with the simplest things in life and thank god i have been blessed to feel sorrow, suffering or pain than to feel to the least bitterness to the most nothing at all! Have a blessed day you all more blessed than me!

ReplyDeleteThe world is full of rude people, pinagpala na nga grabe pa mamintas. I totally agree with you that to criticise to boose the moral is understandable but if done for the sake of criticising was foul. Good writing.
